Gender Dysphoria & Intergender Web-based Services

1st Step: Start here your evaluation through one email consultation (we call that consultation "anamnesis" = your story). This consultation consists of an immediate stress evaluation by means of a simple questionnaire and afterwards, you will send a complete life history which we will comment on and probably ask further questions. Click here to start now! 2nd Step:After your first step, we may start immediately the second step. FtM's, take the FMX unexpected masculinity test, and for MtF take the MFX unexpected femininity test. Intergenders may consider the same tests based on sex of assignment (even if the patient does not accept the original sex of assignment). You will access the test page and answer 100 questions and submit it to us. In a few days we will send you a complete report, in PDF format. Click here for FMX test access! Click here for MFX test access! 3rd Step:After your first and second steps, we will need to evaluate your mental health, through an MMPI screening if you intend a complete evaluation for a possible future transition and HRT-hormone therapy. You will access the test instructions page and the 566 questions page immediately and after you answer the test and take all the scale scores at the bottom of the questions page, you submit it to us. Other Steps:The 3rd step, the MMPI report, includes a final evaluation report. So, from then on, we establish with you the future steps, if you need them, as a TransPack for 6 months orientation for transition and HRT, for MtF or FtM... or a referral letter for local HRT ... or perhaps you need nothing more. For example, almost all Intergender patients may need only the MFX or FMX tests to know better the dynamics of gender identity development, but may not need any "medical or psychotherapeutical" intervention, nor any "body transition". June 2007 Good news from Dr.Nick Gorton, MD. "This weekend was the AMA house of delegates meeting in Chicago. I flew there to speak at the HOD in support the GLBT advisory committee submitted a proposal to amend several AMA policy statements. The report "Recommendations to Modify AMA Policy to Ensure Inclusion for Transgender Physicians, Medical Students and Patients" can be found here: http://www.ama-assn.org/ama1/pub/upload/mm/467/bot11a07.doc There were probably about 10 speakers - all in support of the proposal. And it passed! The HOD accepted the recs and now this will amend AMA policy! The two people almost entirely responsible for this are Becky Allison and Michael Kutnick - if you see either or them, several high-fives would be in order." So from now on, in US the AMA- American Medical Association (the same as Brazilian CFM- Conselho Federal de Medicina) is explicitly accepting and considering the special situation of gender variants as patients and health care professionals and students. Really good news! We would like to thank Dr.Kamol and his staff. ____________________________________________________________________________________ November 14th, 2006 I asked a dear North American friend, the exact meaning of two English words - my English is really not very good. Here are the names and his answers: SYNDROME= A group of signs and symptoms that collectively indicate or characterize a disease, psychological disorder, or other abnormal condition. DYSPHORIA=An emotional state characterized by anxiety, depression, and restlessness. Both definitions are from The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language So, that is why I like the name DYSPHORIA - that MEANS NOT A DISORDER OR DISEASE - but a disgusting situation. We at Gendercare we understand GENDER VARIANCES as Phenomena, that may trigger OR NOT a DYSPHORIA. When Sex and Gender are in harmony - there is no dysphoria. Even when sex & gender are derived from atypical developments of sex and gender if they are in harmony - there is no dysphoria. Most Intersex/Intergender live that situation. When a real DISORDER may happen? A mental disorder after a lot of sufferings - what we may classify as GIDNOS - dysphorics with a possible disorder - they are RARE - BUT EXIST. But surely most with GV-gender variances have no disorder - but sometimes a lot of them may live a DYSPHORIA - and then they need professional help. That is one of the main reasons I like the name Gender Dysphoria - and I like not Gender Identity Disorder. I like the name of Harry Benjamin - and his society named Harry Benjamin International Gender Dysphoria Association - a good name, a fair name, a correct name. I love not the new name of that society - WPATH - I am not sure about its meaning - it names the whole by one of its parts - a sterile name. We at Gendercare Gender Clinic we like to consider the following terminology: SEXUAL DEVELOPMENT AND GENDER DEVELOPMENT - two independent things. TSD - typical sexual development - typical male or female development. ASD -atypical sexual development - any atypical - not ideally sexed development - including Intersex and True Hermaphrodites. TGD - typical gender development - sexed gender development in harmony with sexual development - male, female and sometimes intergender. AGD - atypical gender development - or Gender Variance - as an Umbrella term for a lot of different situations. Among GV/AGD, inside that umbrella, we may have: Gender Dysphorias - CD, TG, TS (HBS or HBD) and GIDNOS. Some Intersex with bad early assignment may feel as dysphorics. Intergender with or without any dysphoria. Labile gender - sometimes Intergender - that need some help to have stability at one pole or another pole- a desired stability BY THE PATIENT and not by the family , the "expert" or the society (John Money imagined with his idea of "sex of rearing" that all humans had a Labile gender - a big mistake). So we have a lot of diversity - a lot of different GV/AGD situations - a so big diversity we like to say a "gender space" full of possible diversities - a lot of possible dysphorias as lack of harmony - and very few real possible "disorders". I love the name Gender Dysphorias - I love the name Intergender - and it is difficult to consider "disorders", "diseases", "syndromes" as something general - something real for the major part of gender variants. Fiquei estarrecida. Um Dr.Otto Henrique Chaves, urologista, disse que no Hospital São José em Belo Horizonte em Minas Gerais, operaram 15 moças MtF usando a técnica que ele apresentou no "simpósio". Um horror. Ele mutila, corta nervos e vasos, deixa a pessoa insensível, com um simulacro de vagina, um horror. No Marrocos, nos anos 60 faziam melhor do que isso. Um desrespeito com os pacientes. Uma desumanidade. Por isso insistimos: Cirurgias sérias SRS MtF no Brasil, só do Dr.Jurado e do Dr.Cury. O pior é que depois da apresentação dessa absolutamente equivocada, ultrapassada e grosseira "técnica", em 2006 e não na Idade Média, após a apresentação ao querermos questionar o palestrante, o que é de praxe em qualquer simpósio, fomos impedidas pelo Sr.Carlos Teodósio da Ros, presidente da "ABEIS". Lamentável. A única boa notícia que tivemos nesse "simpósio" foi nosso contato com o Dr.Eloísio Alexsandro Silva, que pareceu informado e preparado para desenvolver cirurgias SRS MtF de qualidade no Rio de Janeiro. Vamos esperar para ver se nossas expectativas com relação a ele se concretizam.
